On September 21, 2020, the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops organized an on-site observation meeting at Dishang experimental station for the mechanized harvesting of the new mung bean variety Jilv 19 which is developed specially for machine harvest. The meeting was chaired by the institute’s Vice Director Huang Ruiheng and addressed by Director Li Yan. Experts on food bean research came to the meeting from Tangshan, Zhangjiakou and Baoding of Hebei Province as well as Nanjing of Jiangsu Province.
Prof. Tian Jing, head of food bean research team, introduced to the participants the basic information of the mung bean demonstration field and the characteristics of Jilv 19, and informed the late research progresses on breeding of new varieties with resistance to diseases, resistance to bean weevil and suitable for mechanized harvesting.
The harvester is from Nanjing Agriculture Mechanization Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Its operation efficiency is 3 mu/h. Sampling showed the grain dropping quantity of the harvesting operation is 5g/m2 and the grain breaking rate lower than 2%, indicating the harvester and the variety match well and the harvesting process is less time and power consuming than manual harvesting.
Some leaders from Hebei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Hebei Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences attended the event as well.
