The new cotton varieties Jifengza No.5 and Jifeng103 have recently been approved by the Crop Variety Approval Committee of Hebei Province. The authorized numbers are Jishenmian 20190002 and Jishenmian 20190008, respectively. These varieties are developed by the Cotton Breeding Research Laboratory in the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops.
Jifengza No.5 is a transgenic insect-resistant hybrid with the characteristics of stable high yield, resistance to diseases and pests, big bolls, high lint percentage and good fiber quality. The field data shows its whole growth period about 123d, boll weight 7.2g, lint percentage 41%, upper half mean length 29.4mm, fiber strength 31.0 cN/tex, and micronaire 5.3. In the regional test of Hebei Province from 2015 to 2016, the average lint yield was 116.8kg/mu, 11.0% higher than that of the control variety Hanza306, ranking the first of its kind; in the 2016 production test, the lint yield was 112.1kg/mu, 8.1% higher compared to Hanza306 and again in the first place.
Jifeng103 is a conventional transgenic insect-resistant variety with steady growth, high and stable yield, concentrated boll setting and boll opening, early maturity, good fiber quality and resistance to diseases. Its whole growth period about 121d, boll weight 6.4g, lint percentage 40.2%, upper half mean length 29.5mm, fiber strength 31.8 cN/tex, and micronaire 5.2. In the regional trials of Hebei Province in 2013-2014, the average lint yield was 115.8 kg, 4.3% higher than that of the control variety Jimian 958; in the 2015 production test, the lint yield was 116.4 kg, 5.9% higher than that of the control Jifeng 1271.
